POINCIANA, FL — Drivers in Poinciana will notice a major traffic change at a busy intersection near a local school, aimed at improving safety after a history of serious crashes.
On May 5, 2026, Osceola County crews converted the intersection of KOA Street and Laurel Avenue into a 4-way stop, replacing the previous electric pedestrian crossing system.
📸 iSkyNews reporters were on scene as crews removed the pedestrian walkway equipment and installed new stop signs at all directions, marking a significant shift in how traffic flows through the area.
The intersection sits directly in front of KOA Elementary School and has long been considered a dangerous stretch of roadway, with multiple crashes reported over the years — including several that turned deadly.
Officials hope the new 4-way stop will help slow traffic and reduce the risk of future accidents, especially with children and families frequently crossing in the area.
⚠️ Drivers are urged to use extra caution, as this is a newly implemented traffic control pattern and it may take time for motorists to adjust.
Residents and parents in the area have previously raised concerns about speeding and visibility, making this change a long-awaited safety improvement for the community.
