Deputies Fatally Shoot Armed 18-Year-Old During Mental Health Crisis in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL (June 14, 2025) — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot by Osceola County deputies during a confrontation tied to a mental health crisis Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

Chief Deputy Dan Weis of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference confirming that two deputieswere involved in the shooting, which occurred at approximately 12:49 p.m. near Chirpine Lane in St. Cloud.

Deputies had responded to a 911 call from the subject’s family, who reported that their loved one was experiencing a mental health crisis and had a gun to his head. Fire and rescue units were also dispatched to the scene due to the nature of the emergency.

According to investigators, when deputies arrived, the 18-year-old emerged from a wooded area naked and armed with a firearm. He then charged at deputies, ignoring verbal commands to drop the weapon. Chief Deputy Weis stated, “The subject charged our deputies and both of our deputies had to fire their firearms and then stop the subject.”

The teen was struck by gunfire and died from his injuries. Officials have not confirmed whether he died on scene or later at a hospital. His weapon was recovered by authorities after the shooting.

“Our deputies are OK. They weren’t shot,” said Weis. No deputies were physically injured during the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has taken over the investigation, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in the state. The names of the deputies and the deceased individual have not yet been released.
