4 People Shot in Mesa Near McKellips and Center; One Person Detained

MESA, Ariz. — Four people were hospitalized following a shooting Tuesday evening near McKellips Road and Center Street in Mesa, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Officers responded to the area of West McKellips Road and North Center Street at approximately 6 p.m. on Sept. 22after receiving reports of a shooting.

Mesa Police initially reported that four males had been shot, but later updated that information, confirming the victims are three males and one female.

All four victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

Police also confirmed that one person has been detained as investigators work to determine what led up to the shooting. Authorities have not said whether that person is considered a suspect or whether any arrests have been made.

Investigators previously described the shooting as an isolated incident and asked people to avoid the area while officers worked the active scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
