Kissimmee Mother Accused of Trying to Kill Her Two Adult Sons in Intentional Overdose

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A 68-year-old Kissimmee woman is facing attempted murder charges after Osceola County detectives say she intentionally gave medication to her two adult sons in an effort to kill them — and also overdosed herself.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on Indian Ridge Trail South shortly after 10 a.m. on September 8 for a reported overdose.
When deputies arrived, they found three adults showing signs of a drug overdose: Marilyn Elise Therrell and her two sons, ages 30 and 32. The sheriff’s office described both sons as severely autistic.
All three were taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment.
But as detectives began looking into what happened, investigators say the overdose no longer appeared accidental.
Detectives collected evidence from the home and spoke with a long-distance family member and the landlord. According to the sheriff’s office, statements Therrell had made were consistent with intentionally giving medication to both herself and her sons in an attempt to cause fatal overdoses.
The investigation continued for more than a week.
On September 17, detectives spoke with Therrell again. Investigators say she told them that caring for her adult sons had become increasingly difficult since her husband died last year.
The sheriff’s office says Therrell then admitted she had intentionally overdosed her sons with medication in an attempt to kill them.
She was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated abuse of a disabled adult, according to investigators.
The sheriff’s office did not provide an updated condition for Therrell’s sons in the information released.
Charges are allegations, and Therrell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
