PCSO Hosting Cadet 1000 Info Session for Teens Interested in Law Enforcement

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Do you know a teen who’s curious about what it’s really like to work in law enforcement? The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is inviting students and their families to a special info session this summer for the Cadet 1000 Program — a hands-on opportunity for young people to explore careers in public safety.

📅 When & Where:
The session will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Polk State College Center for Public Safety, located at 1251 Jim Keene Blvd., Winter Haven.

The Cadet 1000 program is open to students ages 14 to 20 who live in Polk County and are interested in any part of law enforcement — whether it’s patrol, forensics, dispatch, or investigations. This isn’t just classroom learning — cadets get real-world exposure to topics like:

• 🧬 Fingerprinting techniques
• 🚑 Basic first aid
• 🔫 Firearm safety (no live weapons)
• 🚓 Traffic stops & patrol procedures
• 🚦 Directing traffic
• 🧠 How to handle crisis situations

But it’s not just about police skills. The program focuses on building confidence, leadership, good decision-making, and a sense of community service. Cadet 1000 is part of a national network called Public Safety Cadets, which works to guide young people toward careers in law enforcement and beyond.

Who Can Join?

To be considered, students must:

• Be a Polk County resident
• Be at least 14 years old and have finished 8th grade
• Have at least a C average in school
• Be of good moral character
• Have no criminal record
• Maintain a good school attendance and behavior record
• Successfully complete an oral review board
