Tragic Fatal Crash on Red Mountain 202: Woman Killed in Fiery Single-Vehicle Accident

Mesa, AZ (iSkyNews.com) — A terrifying crash on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Val Vista Drive left a woman dead Sunday afternoon after her car erupted into flames with her still trapped inside.

The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the westbound exit ramp onto Val Vista of the freeway. Emergency crews from Mesa Fire and Medical, Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), and Salt River Police Department responded quickly. However, the vehicle was already fully engulfed in fire, and the female driver could not be saved.

Due to the circumstances and severity of the crash, authorities have designated the scene as an active crime scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

🚧 Witness Account:
A witness on scene told iSkyNews.com Reporters that the car as "acting erratically" moments before it lost control and slammed into a freeway wall. The witness rushed to help, saying they broke the vehicle’s windows, retrieved the woman’s purse, and tried desperately to pull her out, but the flames became too intense and they were unable to save her.

🚔 Road Closure Alert:
The Val Vista Drive exit and westbound lanes of the Red Mountain Loop 202 Exit Ramp remain closed while investigators from multiple agencies work to determine the cause of the crash. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification.

Authorities are examining whether speed, a medical emergency, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the tragic crash.
