Trooper Stabbed During Officer-Involved Shooting on SR-836 in Miami-Dade County

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was stabbed during a violent encounter early Saturday morning that ended in an officer-involved shooting along State Road 836, according to authorities.

The incident occurred on March 7, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m., when Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers responded to reports of a reckless driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 836 near Northwest 107th Avenue.

According to FHP, a responding trooper located the vehicle stopped in the grassy center median of SR-836 and made contact with a female driver, who also had a young child inside the vehicle.

During the interaction, investigators say the woman brandished a knife and attacked the trooper, stabbing him in the head, neck, and shoulder.

Authorities say the trooper then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.

Both the injured trooper and the suspect were transported to HCA Kendall Trauma Center for treatment.

Investigators later determined the female suspect had active arrest warrants for child neglect, child abuse, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) has taken custody of the child who was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Officials say the suspect will be booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail once she is medically released from the hospital.

As with all officer-involved shootings in Florida, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting an independent review of the trooper’s use of force.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the incident remains an active criminal investigation, and no additional information will be released at this time.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) said its mission is to provide highway safety and security through service, education, and enforcement, while the Florida Highway Patrol continues its work to ensure the safety of Florida’s residents and visitors.
