KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Two 5-year-old twin girls have died following a drowning incident at a vacation rental home in Osceola County, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 11:04 a.m. to a residence located at 4710 Ruby Red Lane after receiving a 911 call reporting two children unresponsive in a residential swimming pool.
Emergency crews arrived and began life-saving measures before both children were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando. Despite those efforts, both girls were later pronounced deceased.
According to investigators, the family was visiting Central Florida from an area near Atlanta, Georgia, and was staying at the home as vacation guests.
Detectives said a 15-year-old family member had been left to supervise the two children while they were in or around the pool area. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Members of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office remained at the scene throughout the day conducting interviews and gathering evidence. Officials said the family is cooperating with investigators.
Due to the deaths of the children, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation, which is standard procedure in cases involving unattended deaths. Investigators emphasized that the designation does not necessarily indicate foul play.
The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
No additional information has been released at this time.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.
No matter the circumstances, this is an unimaginable loss for a family who came to Florida expecting to make happy memories together.
Please keep the family, first responders, medical personnel, and everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
