Mesa Police Submit Negligent Homicide Charge in Shooting Death of Maria Lewis

MESA, AZ — Detectives with the Mesa Police Department have submitted criminal charges following their investigation into the shooting death of 32-year-old Maria Lewis, authorities confirmed in an update sent directly to iSkyNews.com.

According to investigators, the case has developed significantly since the deadly shooting that claimed Lewis’s life earlier this month. Over the past week and a half, Mesa Police detectives conducted what officials described as a thorough and comprehensive investigation, which included executing multiple search warrants, conducting numerous interviews, and performing detailed forensic analysis.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified 47-year-old Dulance Morin as the suspect in the case.

Police say investigators determined there is probable cause to charge Morin with negligent homicide in connection with Lewis’s death. The charge recommendation has now been submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, which will review the case and determine whether to formally file charges.

Officials noted that the investigation required careful attention to evidence and witness statements before detectives could move forward with submitting charges.

“The Mesa Police Department understands the community’s interest in this case and appreciates the public’s patience as detectives worked diligently to ensure the investigation was careful, accurate, and complete,” the department said in a statement.

The case remains under review by prosecutors. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been released at this time.
