Mesa Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of 32-Year-Old Woman on East Kinetic Drive
MESA, AZ — According to Mesa Police, officers were dispatched at 2:44 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, after a 911 caller reported an injured person at the front door of a residence in the 9000 block of East Kinetic Drive. Officers responded to the location to conduct a welfare check.

When officers arrived, they discovered an adult female lying near the front door suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later identified the victim as 32-year-old Maria Lewis.
During the investigation, detectives determined that the homeowner, 47-year-old Dulance Morin, was involved in the shooting that led to Lewis’s death. Police say the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation, and investigators are continuing to piece together what led up to the shooting.
Mesa Police say detectives are currently executing search warrants, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses, and awaiting forensic testing results as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators also confirmed that Lewis’s family has been notified and briefed on the progress of the case. The family has expressed appreciation for the work detectives are doing and has asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and methodical, and additional details will be released when appropriate.

Family Seeking Support After Tragic Loss
Family members of Maria Lewis say the loss has left behind a devastated household. Lewis, affectionately known to loved ones as “MEA,” was a 32-year-old mother of seven children, ranging in age from 12 years old to just 2 years old.
According to her sister-in-law, Carmela, Lewis leaves behind her husband, who is now faced with raising their seven children while coping with the sudden loss of his wife.
Family members say the unexpected tragedy has created significant emotional and financial challenges as they work to support the children and handle legal and funeral-related expenses.
