DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER: Osceola Deputies Launch Super Bowl DUI Saturation Patrol

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL – As football fans across Central Florida prepare for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) is issuing a stern warning: if you drink and drive tonight, you will be caught.

Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed that a specialized DUI squad and patrol deputies will be out in force tonight, conducting a county-wide DUI saturation patrol. The high-visibility operation is part of an ongoing commitment to prevent alcohol-related crashes and save lives during a statistically dangerous window for Florida motorists.

The Deadly Stats of Game Day

The stakes for Super Bowl Sunday go far beyond the final score. According to the OCSO, the "big game" brings a significant spike in dangerous driving behavior:

  • Fatalities: Approximately 45% of Super Bowl Sunday traffic fatalities involve alcohol.
  • Incident Surge: Driving incidents typically surge by 20% compared to any other Sunday of the year.
  • The Danger Zone: Data shows the biggest spike in crashes and arrests occurs within two hours after the game ends, as fans leave parties and bars.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to treat their travel plans with the same strategy as the teams on the field. To avoid a life-altering arrest or a tragic collision, authorities recommend three simple plays:

  • Designate a Driver: Ensure you have a sober friend behind the wheel before the first kickoff.
  • Use Rideshare: Apps like Uber and Lyft are readily available throughout Kissimmee, St. Cloud, and the surrounding areas.
  • Stay Put: If you are consuming alcohol, the safest option is to stay home or stay where you are watching the game.

"The Osceola Sheriff’s Office is committed to preventing crashes involving impairment," the agency stated in a release.

Deputies will be monitoring major thoroughfares and local neighborhood roads throughout the night. Residents who spot a suspected impaired driver are encouraged to dial 911 immediately.
