Mesa, AZ (iSkyNews.com) — A serious apartment fire at 1424 E Dana Avenue, Unit A erupted Saturday afternoon, prompting a major 1st Alarm response and displacing several families.

Firefighters from Mesa Fire and Medical arrived on scene shortly before 3:00 p.m. to find heavy flames and smoke coming from one of the units. The fire was quickly upgraded to a 1st Alarm Working Fire, drawing support from Gilbert FireMesa Police, and several utility agencies.

Crews faced dangerous conditions after discovering live electrical wires down near the scene. Salt River Project (SRP) and City of Mesa Gas were dispatched to assist in securing the area. By 3:34 p.m., firefighters had the blaze under control, with crews continuing to work hot spots.

In an exclusive interview with iSkyNews.com, a Mesa Fire Captain confirmed that four apartment units were a complete loss, and multiple families are now homeless. The American Red Cross was called in to provide immediate assistance to the displaced residents.

The Mesa Fire Command Postambulance units, and rehab truck were all present at the scene to support operations and ensure the safety of first responders.

Mesa Police secured the area for public safety while investigators work to determine the official cause of the fire.
