Wrong-Way Crash on I-75 Leaves Three Injured, One Critically

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Three people were hospitalized following a nearly head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 75 early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on September 13 near mile marker 327, south of State Road 91.

Investigators said a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 22-year-old Ocala man was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-75 when it collided nearly head-on with a northbound Land Rover.

The Land Rover was driven by a 57-year-old Texas woman. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

An adult male passenger in the Land Rover, also from Texas, suffered critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators have not determined where the Tacoma entered the interstate or how long it had been traveling in the wrong direction.

The crash remains under investigation.
