LAKELAND, Fla. — Polk County pet owners will have the opportunity to protect their furry family members at no cost during a Free Microchip and Rabies Vaccine Clinic taking place this Saturday, July 25.
The event is a partnership between Polk County Animal Control, SPCA Florida, Greater Good Charities, and the Florida State Animal Resource Coalition (FL SARC) and will begin at 8 a.m. at the SPCA Florida campus, located at 5850 Brannen Road South in Lakeland.
The first 500 pets, or while supplies last, will receive free microchips and rabies vaccinations. Organizers say the event is designed to help keep pets healthy, protected, and more likely to be reunited with their families if they become lost.
In addition to free pet services, Polk County residents will receive hurricane preparedness information, including pet-friendly shelter information and hurricane preparedness kits to help families prepare for the remainder of the 2026 hurricane season.
The clinic comes as officials continue monitoring recent rabies cases in Polk County and neighboring counties, making vaccinations even more important for the safety of both pets and the community.
"Polk County Animal Control is grateful to partner with Greater Good Charities, FL SARC (State Animal Resource Coalition) and SPCA Florida to help residents who need additional protective services for their pets," said Captain Jason Varnadore. "We commend these groups for their community efforts and are grateful for their support of vaccines and goods to help our communities' families and their pets."
Organizers encourage all Polk County residents who need these services to arrive early, as supplies are limited to the first 500 pets.
