Woman Arrested After Husband Fatally Stabbed Inside Mesa Home

MESA, Ariz. — A 41-year-old Mesa woman is facing a second-degree murder charge after police say she fatally stabbed her 82-year-old husband inside their home Saturday night.
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:20 p.m. on July 18 to a residence in the 7200 block of East Norwood Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Before officers arrived, investigators say 41-year-old Christina Copley approached a neighbor while holding a knife covered in blood and admitted she had stabbed her husband. When officers arrived, they took Copley into custody without incident.
Inside the home, officers found 82-year-old Ed Copley suffering from multiple apparent stab wounds. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures until Mesa Fire and Medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts, Ed Copley was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives learned there had been previous domestic violence-related calls for service involving Christina and Ed Copley, including an earlier incident that resulted in Christina Copley's arrest.
Following the investigation, Christina Copley was booked into jail on one count of Second-Degree Murder under Arizona Revised Statute § 13-1104(A)(2).

According to jail records, Copley was booked into custody early July 20 by the Mesa Police Department. She is being held on a $500,000 bond after the case was bound over to Superior Court. Court records show her next scheduled hearing is July 24, 2026, at 8:31 a.m. in Maricopa County Superior Court.
The investigation remains ongoing.
