Florida Highway Patrol Urges Drivers to Slow Down on I-275 in Tampa Due to Heavy Rain

TAMPA, Fla. (July 24, 2026)  The Florida Highway Patrol is urging motorists to use extra caution while traveling on Interstate 275 near State Road 60 (Mile Marker 39) due to heavy rainfall and water accumulating on the roadway.

In a message provided to iSkyNews.com, the Florida Highway Patrol warned drivers that wet road conditions could make travel hazardous, particularly during periods of heavy rain.

Troopers are asking motorists to:

  • Reduce their speed
  • Increase following distance
  • Eliminate all distractions while driving

Heavy rain can quickly reduce visibility and create areas of standing water, increasing the risk of hydroplaning and crashes.

Drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use headlights when appropriate, and avoid sudden braking or sharp steering movements on wet pavement.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to monitor roadway conditions and reminds all motorists to use caution until weather conditions improve.
