Severe Thunderstorm Hitting the East Valley; 60 MPH Wind Gusts Possible

MESA, Ariz. — A severe thunderstorm is hitting the East Valley Monday evening, bringing strong winds and lightning to portions of Maricopa and Pinal counties.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 8:07 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, with the warning in effect until 8:30 p.m. MST.

At 8:07 p.m., the severe thunderstorm was located over Usery Mountain Park, near East Mesa, and was moving northeast at approximately 15 mph.

The storm is capable of producing wind gusts of up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The storm was radar-indicated.

Lightning is also being reported across the East Valley as the thunderstorm moves through the area.

The warning includes portions of Maricopa County in south-central Arizona and Pinal County in southeastern Arizona.

Residents in the path of the storm should remain indoors and away from windows as the severe weather moves through.  Even though the warning has expired, the weather is still continuing to provide dangerous conditions in the areas affected.
