DAVENPORT, Fla. — A family gathering turned into heartbreak Sunday afternoon after a 5-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a vacation rental in Davenport, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched just after 1:00 p.m. to an Airbnb located off Takeaway Way after receiving reports that a child had been found unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool.

When deputies arrived, they immediately began life-saving efforts, performing CPR on the unconscious child until Osceola County Fire Rescue personnel arrived and took over emergency care.

The child, identified only as a 5-year-old boy from Brevard County, was rushed to AdventHealth Celebration, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the boy was visiting the vacation home with extended family and had been in the pool area with other children before the tragic incident occurred.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and have launched an investigation, which is standard procedure in unattended child deaths, including drownings. Authorities have not indicated that foul play is suspected, and the investigation remains active.

The heartbreaking loss serves as another reminder of how quickly a fun day around the water can become a tragedy.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office urges parents and caregivers to maintain constant supervision whenever children are near pools or any body of water. Even a few moments without direct adult attention can have devastating consequences.
