Pennsylvania Truck Driver Wanted for Robbery Arrested at Davenport RaceTrac, Deputies Say

DAVENPORT, Fla. — What started as a call about a disruptive customer at a Davenport convenience store ended with the arrest of a man wanted for robbery in another state.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Sheriff Wong responded to the RaceTrac located at 45119 US 27 in Davenport on Wednesday, May 27, after receiving reports of a disturbance inside the store.

A RaceTrac employee told deputies that a man inside the business was being confrontational with staff members and causing a scene.

When Deputy Wong arrived, she made contact with the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Hakeem Jamal Copeland of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Copeland reportedly told the deputy that he was a truck driver who was taking a mandatory break during his travels.

However, while checking his information, deputies discovered Copeland had an active warrant out of Philadelphia for robbery.

With that discovery, the encounter quickly shifted from a disturbance investigation to an arrest.

Deputies took Copeland into custody without incident.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said Copeland is currently being held in Polk County and is expected to be returned to Pennsylvania to face the robbery charge.

Sheriff Grady Judd's Office added a bit of humor to the arrest announcement, noting that Copeland's "mandatory break just got a lot longer" and that he is currently a guest at "Grady Judd's Bed & Breakfast" before eventually returning to the City of Brotherly Love.

No additional information regarding the Pennsylvania robbery case has been released.
