HARMONY, Fla. — Extra deputies are on campus at Harmony High School Friday morning after reports of a possible shooting began circulating, just days after a violent attack on a student made headlines across Central Florida.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the reported shooting threats were false and clarified that Harmony High School is not on lockdown.
According to Captain Kim Montes, deputies first received information Thursday night claiming that the teenager who was attacked by a group of students earlier this month was planning to attend Friday night's football game and carry out a shooting.
Deputies immediately looked into the allegation, speaking with the teenager and his family. After investigating, authorities determined the report had been fabricated.
The Sheriff's Office believes someone may have deliberately made up the story in an attempt to make the victim of the earlier attack look bad.
But the concerns didn't stop there.
Friday morning, an alleged text message began circulating, warning that a shooting would happen at Harmony High School.
Deputies investigated that report as well and determined it was also false.
While additional deputies have been assigned to the school as a precaution, officials emphasized that the campus is not under lockdown.
Threats Follow Violent Attack on Student
The situation comes just one week after a disturbing incident involving several Harmony High School students.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the incident began October 16 when the teenager confronted students who were throwing carrots at a girl inside the school cafeteria. Later that afternoon, as he walked toward his vehicle near a tunnel outside the school, deputies say he was attacked by a group of nine students.
According to investigators, the confrontation continued after school when a group of students attacked the teenager outside the campus.
Video of the assault spread across social media, showing several students repeatedly striking the victim.
The teenager suffered facial injuries that required 11 stitches.
Nine students were arrested in connection with the attack and face felony charges.
Now, the same teenager has become the subject of shooting allegations that investigators say were completely fabricated.

Friday Night Football Game Will Go On With Extra Security
Despite the concerns surrounding the reported threats, Harmony High School's football game scheduled for Friday night is still expected to take place.
The Sheriff's Office says deputies have reviewed the situation and are taking additional precautions to help keep students, families, and spectators safe.
An additional 10 deputies, along with K-9 units and mounted patrol officers, will be assigned to the game.
Officers from the St. Cloud Police Department will also be in attendance.
The Sheriff's Office says it is working closely with Harmony High School administrators and staff to make sure everyone can attend the game safely.
Sheriff's Office Warns Against Making False Threats
Authorities are also warning that making false reports about a potential school shooting can carry serious consequences.
Captain Montes said the Sheriff's Office will not tolerate these types of reports and that whoever is responsible could face criminal charges if identified.
Investigators have not announced whether they have identified the person or persons responsible for spreading the false information.
For now, the Sheriff's Office wants the community to know that both reported threats have been investigated and determined to be false, Harmony High School is not on lockdown, and extra deputies are on campus as a precaution.
