LAKELAND, Fla. — A dispute involving an ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend turned violent Sunday afternoon when a Lake Wales woman allegedly tried to run the man over with her car before crashing into a parked vehicle and fleeing the scene, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Taylor Renee Alderman, 30, of Lake Wales, was arrested Sunday evening, October 18, 2026, and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.

What Started as a Property Drop-Off Turned Violent

According to detectives, the incident unfolded shortly after 3 p.m. outside a residence in Lakeland.

Investigators say Alderman had arrived in her 2012 Ford Fusion to drop off belongings that belonged to her ex-girlfriend.

What should have been a simple exchange quickly escalated into a heated confrontation.

Deputies say Alderman became involved in a disturbance and allegedly began shouting racial slurs at her ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

Alderman eventually got back into her Ford Fusion and began driving away. However, investigators say she suddenly made a U-turn, accelerated toward the man, and allegedly attempted to strike him with her vehicle.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the man managed to jump out of the vehicle's path, narrowly avoiding a direct impact.

However, the Ford struck his hand as he moved out of the way, leaving him with lacerations.

The vehicle then slammed into another car that was parked nearby.

Rather than stopping, deputies say Alderman drove away from the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that Alderman appeared to intentionally target the man with her vehicle. They also reported seeing her crash into the parked car, causing the bumper of her Ford Fusion to fall off.

Deputies later located Alderman and took her into custody.

During questioning, investigators say Alderman denied striking the victim with her vehicle and also denied crashing into the parked car.

However, witness accounts contradicted her version of events, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest Alderman on several felony charges.

She was subsequently booked into the Sheriff's Processing Center.

Facing Serious Felony Charges

Alderman faces the following charges:

Attempted First-Degree Murder — Capital Felony (FC)

Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon — Second-Degree Felony (F2)

Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Injury — Third-Degree Felony (F3)

According to detectives, Alderman also has a prior criminal history that includes grand theft, resisting, trespassing, violation of probation, and drug possession.

The Sheriff's Office did not specify the outcomes of those prior cases in the information released.

The allegations against Alderman remain accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The victim's reported injuries were limited to lacerations on his hand. Authorities did not provide additional information regarding his medical treatment.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has not released further details about the confrontation or what may have led Alderman to allegedly turn her vehicle toward the victim.
