JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three North Florida men have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to an alleged dog fighting operation, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Federal prosecutors announced that Drew Geer, 42, of Lake Butler; Anthony Crosby, 42, of Keystone Heights; and Leroy Halbert, 53, of Lake Butler have each been charged with three counts of possession of dogs for dog fighting ventures.

In addition to the dog fighting charges, Geer and Crosby were each charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

If convicted, Geer and Crosby each face a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison, while Halbert faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

According to the indictments, on December 10, 2025, all three men allegedly possessed at least three dogs that were used in dog fighting ventures. Prosecutors further allege that Geer and Crosby possessed firearms despite knowing they had prior felony convictions.

Federal court records show Geer was arrested on May 20, 2026, and remains detained pending trial, which is currently scheduled for July. Crosby and Halbert were arrested on May 29, 2026.

The case is being investigated by the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, and the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro is prosecuting the case.

Federal officials emphasized that an indictment is only a formal accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation remains ongoing.
