A 31-year-old Orlando man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for distributing counterfeit fentanyl pills across Central Florida, federal prosecutors announced.
Orlando, FL. - A Central Florida man will spend the next seven years behind bars after federal prosecutors say he distributed large quantities of counterfeit fentanyl pills in the Orlando area.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Jose Manuel Gonzalez Roman, 31, of Orlando, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza to seven years in federal prison for distributing counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.
Federal officials say Gonzalez Roman previously pleaded guilty on February 4, 2026.
According to court records, the investigation found that between January and April 2024, Gonzalez Roman sold increasingly larger quantities of counterfeit fentanyl pills to a confidential source at multiple locations throughout Orlando.
Investigators say the first sale involved 30 pills, followed by a second deal involving 100 pills, before a third transaction where 700 counterfeit pills were allegedly sold.
In total, prosecutors say Gonzalez Roman was responsible for distributing nearly 500 grams of fentanyl.
Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, has been linked to a growing number of overdose deaths nationwide due to its potency — even in extremely small amounts.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman.
