PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A busy morning commute in Pasco County was disrupted Friday after a landscaping truck overturned, spilling a large load of mulch across the roadway and temporarily shutting down part of a major intersection.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:19 a.m. at the intersection of US-301 and State Road 56.
Troopers say a 44-year-old man from Wesley Chapel was driving a northbound Isuzu landscaping truck when he attempted to make a left turn onto SR-56. During the turn, the load of mulch shifted, causing the truck to lose balance and overturn onto its side.
Photos from the scene show the truck lying on its passenger side, with dozens of bags of mulch scattered across multiple lanes, along with loose debris covering the asphalt. A wheelbarrow and landscaping materials were also seen among the spilled load, indicating the truck was fully stocked for a job prior to the crash.
Traffic cones were placed around the scene as deputies worked to secure the area, while a Pasco Sheriff’s Office vehicle remained on site to assist with traffic control.
The spill forced partial lane closures along US-301 for approximately two hours, as crews worked to clear the roadway and remove the overturned truck.
Despite the dramatic scene, the driver was not injured, according to FHP.
Traffic has since returned to normal in the area.
