One Surrendered, One Captured in Miami After Deadly Marion County Street Race, FHP Says

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Two men are facing serious charges after Florida Highway Patrol investigators say they were street racing at high speeds moments before a crash that killed a 77-year-old woman in Marion County.

The crash happened around noon on August 8 at the intersection of SW 49th Avenue Road and SW 82nd Place Road.

According to information provided directly to iSkyNews.com by the Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles were traveling northbound on SW 49th Avenue Road at high speeds when an SUV attempted to enter the roadway from SW 82nd Place Road.

Investigators say one of the vehicles involved in the alleged race slammed into the left side of the SUV.

The impact left three people inside the SUV injured. A 77-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The 48-year-old driver suffered minor injuries, while a 78-year-old male passenger was seriously injured.

The second vehicle involved in the alleged race continued northbound after the crash, according to FHP.

One Driver Turns Himself In

Nearly a week after the deadly crash, one of the drivers turned himself in.

FHP says 28-year-old Cesar Ramon Estrada Garcia, of Marion County, voluntarily surrendered to troopers at the Marion County Jail at approximately 9:12 a.m. Friday, August 14.

Investigators identified Estrada Garcia as the driver of the vehicle that collided with the SUV.

He is now facing charges of racing on highways, vehicular homicide, reckless driving causing serious injury, reckless driving causing injury and reckless driving causing property damage.

Second Driver Captured in Miami

The second driver, identified by FHP as 21-year-old Misaiah Mike Enriquez, was allegedly behind the wheel of a red BMW.

Investigators say Enriquez fled the area following the crash.

His time on the run ended in Miami, where FHP says he was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Enriquez is now being extradited back to Marion County, where he faces charges of vehicular homicide, fleeing or eluding law enforcement at high speed and reckless driving.

FHP says an additional charge of racing on highways is pending.

Investigation Continues

The Florida Highway Patrol says its investigation into the deadly crash remains active, and additional charges could be filed as investigators continue working the case.

The original crash report lists Trooper David Davis as the crash investigator and Corporal Mark Baker as the homicide investigator.

The case is being investigated under FHP Troop B Case No. FHP26ON0368035.
