Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle on US-27 in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old Haines City man was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 27 near Cagan Crossings Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:39 a.m. on August 15, 2026.

According to an FHP crash report, a 69-year-old Clermont man was driving a 2015 Kia Forte northbound on U.S. 27, south of Cagan Crossings Boulevard, in the inside lane.

A witness told investigators the pedestrian had been walking in the left-turn lane before entering the northbound inside lane and lying down in the path of the approaching Kia, according to FHP.

The vehicle traveled over the pedestrian, and the undercarriage struck him.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP identified him in its report only as a 31-year-old man from Haines City.

The driver of the Kia was not injured and remained at the scene following the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

No additional information was immediately released.
