PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A serious crash Tuesday evening left a driver with significant injuries after an SUV overturned along a busy stretch of U.S. Highway 19.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on April 14, 2026, on southbound US-19 just south of Republic Drive.

Troopers say a GMC Yukon, driven by a 20-year-old Clearwater man, was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The SUV then overturned, and during the crash, the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, where the driver was found with serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No additional vehicles were reported to be involved.

The crash caused disruptions along US-19 as authorities worked to investigate and clear the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
