SUMTER COUNTY, Fla.  A major early morning crash has shut down northbound lanes of Interstate 75 after a tractor-trailer overturned near the Sumter and Marion County line.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:05 a.m. on April 15, 2026, near Milepost 335.

Troopers say a 29-year-old Jacksonville man was driving a tractor-trailer transporting pallets northbound on I-75 when he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The semi subsequently overturned across the roadway, coming to rest blocking all northbound lanes.

Dramatic images from the scene show the truck lying on its side across the highway, with debris scattered along the shoulder and emergency crews working the scene under early morning light.

Despite the severity of the crash, the driver suffered only minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital, according to authorities.

As of publication, northbound I-75 remains closed, with traffic being diverted as crews work to clear the wreckage and investigate the crash. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays in the area.

This incident is being investigated as a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) roadblock crash.
