APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — A military veteran is being recognized for his quick thinking and lifesaving actions after stopping to help a seriously injured motorcyclist following a crash in Apache Junction.

According to officials, the crash happened on October 14 near Superstition Boulevard and Delaware Drive, where a motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision.

As first responders were being dispatched to the scene, a passing driver identified as Dakota noticed the crash and immediately pulled over to help. Dakota, a military veteran, happened to have a medical kit in his vehicle and quickly began rendering aid to the injured rider.

Using his training and the equipment he had on hand, Dakota started providing lifesaving medical care to the motorcyclist, identified as Austin, while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.

Those first moments following a serious crash are often the most critical, and officials say Dakota’s quick response helped stabilize Austin until first responders reached the scene and took over care.

Austin, who has a wife and two children, continues to face a long road to recovery following the crash. However, thanks in part to Dakota’s actions that day, he is alive and able to continue that recovery surrounded by his family.

Community members and local officials have since recognized Dakota’s actions as a powerful reminder of how ordinary people can make extraordinary differences during emergencies.

Authorities say Dakota’s willingness to stop, assess the situation, and immediately provide care demonstrates the impact that training, preparedness, and compassion can have in life-or-death situations.

Austin’s family expressed their gratitude for Dakota’s actions, crediting him with helping save Austin’s life during those critical early moments before paramedics arrived.
