KISSIMMEE, FL – Emergency crews are currently battling a fast-moving brush fire in Osceola County that has severely impacted travel and visibility along one of the region's busiest tourist corridors.

The fire ignited around 3:00 PM today, Saturday, February 7, near the intersection of W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (US-192) and Seralago Blvd. Within minutes, thick black smoke began drifting across the roadway, forcing immediate action from local law enforcement and fire rescue teams.

LIVE FROM THE SCENE:

Traffic Control and Lane Closures

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is on-scene providing critical traffic and scene control. To ensure the safety of emergency personnel and motorists, a significant portion of the highway has been restricted:

  • Westbound W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway: Reduced to only one open lane.
  • Two Westbound Lanes: Currently closed as crews utilize the space for heavy equipment and firefighting operations.

As the fire spread through dry vegetation, the U.S. Forestry Service was called in to assist the Osceola County Fire Department. Forestry units arrived with tractor plows to cut containment lines around the perimeter of the blaze.

The fire comes as Central Florida remains under a Red Flag Warning, with humidity levels dropping below 30% and gusty winds reaching 25 mph. These conditions have made "visibility limited" for drivers, as smoke continues to blanket the area near Old Town and surrounding hotels.

Safety Advisories

Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes like the Osceola Parkway or I-4. If you must travel through the area:

  • Keep windows rolled up to avoid smoke inhalation.
  • Turn on headlights to increase visibility in the haze.
  • Expect significant delays through the evening hours.

No injuries or structure damage have been reported at this time. This is a developing story.
