Illegal U-Turn by Tractor-Trailer Triggers Serious Injury Crash and Arrest on I-75 in Hillsborough County
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A serious injury crash on Interstate 75 near the Hillsborough–Manatee County line led to an arrest Monday afternoon after a tractor-trailer made an illegal maneuver in slow-moving traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on February 9, 2026, as northbound traffic on I-75 was already moving slowly due to an unrelated vehicle fire near the Sun City Center exit. Investigators say that at milepost 235, a tractor-trailer attempted an illegal U-turn to travel southbound on the interstate.

As the truck turned, it entered the path of a Toyota Corolla traveling northbound. The sedan struck the tractor-trailer, causing catastrophic damage to the passenger vehicle.
The driver of the Corolla, a 28-year-old man from Parrish, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 45-year-old Julio Dones Rosa of Citrus Springs, was not injured in the crash. However, troopers determined the maneuver to be reckless and placed Dones Rosa under arrest at the scene.
According to FHP, Dones Rosa was charged with Reckless Driving Involving Serious Injury and was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail.
The crash caused significant traffic disruptions along northbound I-75 as troopers investigated and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
