MESA, Ariz. — A suspect accused of assaulting a man and stealing his vehicle in Mesa was arrested Friday afternoon following a high-speed pursuit that ended in Phoenix, according to the Mesa Police Department.
The incident began just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, when Mesa police responded to a disturbance near the 6000 block of East Main Street. Officers arrived and located the victim, who was suffering from visible head and facial injuries.

The victim told officers he was assaulted by an unknown man who stole his white 2025 Kia K4 and fled westbound on Main Street. Multiple witnesses reported seeing a Black male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt assault the victim before driving off in the stolen vehicle.
Using air support from the Mesa Police Air Unit, officers located the stolen vehicle being driven by 20-year-old Thierry Muhire. Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it entered the freeway using a Grappler device, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
According to police, Muhire failed to stop despite emergency lights and sirens and accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. For safety reasons, ground units reduced their speed while the Mesa Police Air Unit maintained constant visual surveillance of the stolen vehicle.
The pursuit ended in Phoenix, where Muhire parked the stolen vehicle at an apartment complex near 900 North 40th Street and attempted to flee on foot. With assistance from the air unit, officers on the ground quickly located Muhire and took him into custody without further incident.
