POINCIANA, Fla. — Authorities have identified the suspect who died during the February 19 shooting inside the Walmart on Cypress Parkway as Jairus Eroge JonesDOB: December 30, 2009.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the teen’s identity as investigators continue reviewing the officer-involved shooting that occurred during an alleged retail theft incident inside the store.

According to investigators, an off-duty deputy working security confronted multiple individuals suspected of concealing merchandise. During the encounter, officials say the suspect fled while holding a firearm, prompting the deputy to open fireJones was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is leading the investigation, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. Authorities have previously stated that two additional individuals who were with Jones have been identified but were not immediately charged.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional details, including the possible release of surveillance or body-worn camera footage, will be determined as the review progresses.
