12/8 @ 11:00 am MST - iSkyNews.com has received confirmation from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office that the incident has been ruled a suicide. No additional details have been released, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Person Found Deceased With Gun Beside Them in Mesa, Sheriff’s Office Investigating

MESA, Ariz. — A death investigation is underway after a man was found unresponsive with a gun beside him in a dirt area near N. Higley Road and E. Colby Street Sunday afternoon.

The incident unfolded shortly before 3 p.m. when a 911 caller reported seeing a white male lying in the dirt with visible blood and a firearm next to him. According to dispatch radio traffic, the caller immediately began CPR in an effort to save the man’s life.

Mesa Fire and Medical crews, along with Mesa Police officers, arrived moments later and continued lifesaving measures. Despite extensive attempts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area was cordoned off as detectives worked to determine what led up to the incident. After the initial response, the investigation was turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the case.

As of 5 p.m., the investigation remained active, and no additional details—including the man's identity or circumstances surrounding the incident—had been released. iSkyNews.com has reached out to both the Mesa Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for an official statement but has not yet received a response.
