Scottsdale Man Arrested After 4-Hour Barricade; Accused of Threats, Assault, and Violating Protective Order

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A tense four-hour barricade situation unfolded Saturday afternoon near 70th Street and McDowell Road, ending with the arrest of 54-year-old Andrew M. Shadid. Scottsdale Police say Shadid is now facing a long list of domestic-violence–related charges after an incident that escalated rapidly inside a residential neighborhood.

The situation began a little after 11 a.m. Saturday when officers were called to a home near 70th Street and Willetta Street. A woman told police that Shadid had forced his way into her residence, assaulted her, and poured gasoline throughout the home while threatening to ignite it. She also told officers that Shadid said he would kill her and himself if police showed up.

Investigators say there was already a court order in place prohibiting Shadid from being at that residence. The victim was able to escape safely before officers arrived. Police confirmed that no one else was inside the home other than Shadid.

When officers attempted to make contact, Shadid refused to respond. Scottsdale Police established a perimeter, blocked nearby roadways, and evacuated surrounding homes as standard barricade procedures went into effect. The Scottsdale SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to assist, and negotiators made repeated attempts — using various methods — to persuade Shadid to surrender. According to police, he never communicated back and made no effort to come out voluntarily.

At around 3:45 p.m., after hours of unsuccessful negotiation, the SWAT team entered the residence. Officers eventually located Shadid in a bedroom, where he claimed to be armed. A police K9 was deployed, resulting in a dog bite before Shadid was taken into custody with what officials described as minimal injuries. Scottsdale Fire medics treated him at the scene before he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

The barricade lasted roughly four hours. Police say the victim is now receiving support from Scottsdale’s Crisis Intervention Services team.

Once released from the hospital, Shadid was booked into the Scottsdale Jail and later transferred to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jail. His MCSO booking number is G222756.

He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Aggravated Assault – Violating a Protective Order
  • Aggravated Domestic Violence
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault
  • Criminal Damage
  • Disorderly Conduct

The neighborhood has since been reopened, and no additional injuries were reported.
