A devastating mass shooting in Stockton has left four people dead and at least 10 others wounded, after gunfire erupted shortly before 6:00 p.m. near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities confirm that approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, ranging from juveniles to adults, in what early indications suggest may have been a targeted attack. The shooting occurred during a family gathering, which multiple sources—including Reuters and The San Francisco Chronicle—report may have been a child’s birthday party held at or near an ice-cream shop/banquet-style venue.
Deputies, paramedics, and multiple agencies responded to the chaotic scene, rushing wounded victims to local hospitals. At least four individuals were pronounced deceased. The conditions of the hospitalized victims have not yet been released.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee posted to Facebook that the shooting took place at a child's birthday party at a banquet hall in the area shortly after 6 p.m.
"Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words. As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated and angry to learn about the mass shooting at a child’s birthday party," Lee said.
According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office
“This remains a very active and ongoing investigation. Information is limited. Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities.
Anyone with video footage, witness information, or any details is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.”
Deputies continue to secure the area and urge the public to avoid Lucile Avenue as investigators work through multiple crime scenes, shell casings, and witness statements.
