Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Rescues Teen from Interstate Overpass in St. Petersburg

- A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper rescued a 16-year-old Largo girl from the I-275 overpass at 54th Avenue in St. Petersburg.
- FHP said several callers reported the teen was attempting to jump into the path of heavy interstate traffic below.
- The first Trooper on scene located the girl, gave commands for her to stop, and pulled her away from danger when she did not comply.
- The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on June 2, 2026.
- Troopers provided care and began the process of getting the teen help for her recovery.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A quick response by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper is being credited with preventing a potential tragedy after a teenager was found attempting to jump into traffic from an Interstate 275 overpass in St. Petersburg.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 2, 2026, Troopers received multiple calls regarding a female walking on 54th Avenue near the I-275 overpass. Callers reported the female was attempting to jump into the path of heavy oncoming traffic traveling on the interstate below.
The first Trooper to arrive on scene immediately located the female and issued commands for her to stop. When those commands were ignored, the Trooper quickly intervened and pulled the female away from danger, preventing her from entering the path of traffic.
The individual was later identified as a 16-year-old girl from Largo.
Following the rescue, Troopers provided care and assistance to the teen as efforts were initiated to ensure her safety and recovery.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
The Florida Highway Patrol praised the swift actions of the responding Trooper, whose quick thinking and decisive response helped prevent what could have been a tragic outcome.
