Wrong-Way DUI Arrest After State Trooper Performs PIT Maneuver in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ — Early Saturday morning, October 18, 2025, Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Troopers stopped a wrong-way driver before anyone was hurt.
Around 2:30 a.m., dispatchers received multiple reports about a vehicle going southbound in the northbound lanes of Loop 202. The driver eventually exited at Southern Avenue, where the DPS air unit “Firebird” spotted the truck and followed it as it continued driving the wrong way on city streets.
A State Trooper quickly caught up and performed a successful PIT maneuver, stopping the red Ford pickup before it could cause a serious crash.
When the Trooper approached the vehicle, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol and saw a case of beer inside. The driver admitted to having been drinking at a bar earlier in the night and showed clear signs of impairment. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for wrong-way DUI.
AZDPS used the moment to remind everyone: “The sign says ‘Do Not Enter.’ DUI says ‘Go Right To Jail.’” Drinking and driving is a choice — and it’s one that can easily cost lives.
