DUNDEE, Fla. — A Dundee man wanted on an active warrant was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop that Polk County deputies say quickly became tense.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old Robert Greer III was arrested on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, after a deputy spotted a brown 2011 Scion belonging to Greer shortly after 4 p.m.
The sheriff’s office said Greer was known to have an active warrant for Failure to Appear involving previous charges of battery and failure to report for weekend work release.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop near Woodland Drive and Chicago Way in Dundee.
According to PCSO, Greer immediately got out of the vehicle and began approaching the deputy with his fists clenched. The deputy quickly exited his patrol vehicle and pointed a Taser at Greer.
Greer stopped approaching, and the Taser was not deployed, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said that as they attempted to take Greer into custody, he began resisting and shouting that the deputies were “gonna learn today,” adding, “I’ll die before I go back to jail.”
Despite the confrontation, deputies were able to secure Greer and take him into custody without the Taser being used.
Greer was transported to the Polk County Jail, where he was booked on the outstanding warrant.
The sheriff’s office said he was also charged with resisting and driving while license suspended or revoked in connection with Wednesday’s encounter.
PCSO also cited Greer’s prior criminal history, which the agency said includes offenses involving battery, DUI, illegal narcotics, aggravated assault, aggravated stalking and weapons violations.
Sheriff Grady Judd’s office ended its social media announcement with a characteristically pointed message, saying that if Greer is serious about not wanting to return to jail, he should stop committing crimes.
The charges are allegations, and Greer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
