Four-Vehicle Crash Sends Five to Hospital in Mesa — Lanes Reopen After Major Response
Mesa, AZ (iSkyNews.com) - Mesa Fire and Medical crews responded just after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to a “2-in-1 Medical Vehicle Accident” at the intersection of Lindsay Road and University Drive. The term (2 in 1 Medical) refers to a situation where a medical emergency occurs in conjunction with a traffic collision, requiring both rescue and advanced medical response.
When crews arrived, they found four vehicles involved — two of them with heavy damage. Mesa Fire and Medical personnel immediately began treating multiple patients at the scene while securing the vehicles and addressing hazardous fluid leaks. A total of five people were transported to nearby hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Lindsay Road were temporarily closed, along with the southbound turn lane from westbound University Drive. Two vehicles were removed by Valley Express Towing using two separate tow trucks.
Mesa Fire units worked quickly to contain a fluid spill from one of the vehicles using absorbent material and to ensure all hazards were mitigated. By approximately 5:45 p.m., the scene was cleared and all Mesa Fire and Medical units and Mesa Police Officers were back in service.
Traffic in the area has since returned to normal. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
