Mobile Home Fire Erupts at Sunrise Vista Park in Mesa — Crews Battle Flames Without Nearby Hydrants

MESA, AZ (iSkyNews.com) At approximately 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening, Mesa Fire and Medical, along with Mesa Police, responded to reports of a mobile home fire at 300 S Val Vista Drive, Unit 272, located within the Sunrise Vista Mobile Home Park.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the bedroom area of the home. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters faced added challenges due to a lack of nearby hydrants within the park. Mesa Fire units were forced to connect hoses out to the main road and rely on their own fire trucks for water supply. SRP and City of Mesa Gas were also dispatched to the scene to assist with utilities.

This situation could have been much worse — an electric vehicle was also parked at the residence. Because of this, Mesa Fire dispatched a Water Tender truck as a precaution in case the EV became engulfed in flames. Electric vehicle fires pose unique dangers because their lithium-ion batteries can burn at extremely high temperaturesreignite hours or even days later, and require large amounts of water to fully cool and extinguish.

As of 6:20 p.m., the fire was still being fought in an offensive mode, with crews working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby units. By 6:45 p.m., the fire was fully extinguished with the exception of a few hot spots, and units began to return to service. A Mesa Fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.

According to Mesa’s Fire Code, at least one fire hydrant must be located within 500 feet of any structure or combustible material and must provide the required water flow for emergency response. If hydrants are located on private property, such as within a mobile home park, the park owner is legally responsible for installation, maintenance, and accessibility.

Despite the tough struggle of having no hydrants nearby, Mesa Fire & Medical crews were able to succeed and extinguish the flames. Great job to Mesa Fire and Mesa Police for protecting our community and keeping everyone safe.
