Buzzing Alarm in Eloy: Firefighters Rescue Resident Trapped by Swarm of Bees
ELOY, Ariz. – It wasn’t smoke or flames that brought firefighters racing to a home in Eloy this morning—it was bees. A lot of them.
According to the Eloy Fire District, crews from Engine, Medic, and Battalion 521 were dispatched after a panicked resident called 911, reporting they were trapped inside their own house by a swarm of bees.
The resident said they awoke to find dozens—if not hundreds—of bees flying around the interior of the home. Unable to make it to the door without getting swarmed, they locked themselves in the bathroom and called for help.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered the bees weren’t just inside—they had taken over the attic and were spilling into the living spaces. Working carefully, crews safely escorted the resident out of the home and contacted a local beekeeper for humane removal of the swarm.
Fortunately, no one was injured—not the homeowner, not the firefighters, and not even the bees.

🐝 What to Do If You Encounter a Swarm of Bees
While bee encounters are rare inside homes, they can happen—especially in Arizona. If you find yourself facing a swarm, here are safety tips from experts:
✅ Stay Calm – Sudden movements can agitate bees. Avoid swatting at them.
✅ Seek Shelter – Move indoors or into a closed vehicle as quickly and calmly as possible.
✅ Call for Help – Contact your local fire department or a licensed beekeeper for safe removal.
✅ Protect Yourself – If bees begin to sting, cover your face and head with clothing and move away from the area.
✅ Don’t Attempt Removal Yourself – Sprays or DIY removal can be dangerous and may provoke the swarm.
Remember: Stay calm, move away slowly, and call a pro. The bees will thank you (in their own buzz-y way).
🐝 What NOT to Do if You Encounter Bees 🐝
Because sometimes knowing what not to do is just as important:
❌ Don’t start yelling “NOT THE BEES!” like you’re in a Nicolas Cage movie—it won’t help, and the bees don’t get movie references.
❌ Don’t grab a broom and try to “escort” them out like a rude dinner guest. They’ll take it personally.
❌ Don’t spray them with your garden hose—you’ll just create wet, angry bees.
❌ Don’t put on your cologne or perfume and go back outside. To bees, you now smell like a delicious flower buffet.
❌ Don’t challenge them to a fight—they have better teamwork and no fear of heights.
Remember, most bee swarms aren’t aggressive unless they feel threatened. Bees play an important role in pollination, so humane removal is always the safest and most eco-friendly option.
