Volusia County, FL  A late-night crash on State Road 40 near Pine Woods Road left one person dead and two others seriously injured on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2017 Can-Am Outlander ATV was traveling westbound along the eastbound right grass shoulder of SR-40 just before midnight. The ATV, carrying a 28-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman, both from Ormond Beach, entered the eastbound lane directly into the path of a 1985 Honda CMX250 motorcycle driven by a 35-year-old Ormond Beach man.

The front of the ATV collided head-on with the motorcycle. Both ATV riders, who were not wearing helmets, sustained serious injuries and were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say next of kin have been notified. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
