MESA, AZ — June 20, 2025 — A popular local restaurant was the scene of a dramatic fire response Friday evening after smoke and flames were spotted pouring from the roof of The Hub Grill and Bar near Stapley Drive and the US 60.
At approximately 7:25 p.m., Mesa Fire & Medical crews were dispatched to 1860 S Stapley Dr after receiving a 911 call reporting smoke at the establishment. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed visible flames and smoke coming from the front rooftop of the building and immediately upgraded the call to a working fire.
Mesa Police also arrived on scene to assist with traffic and crowd control.
An on-site source affiliated with the restaurant, who did not wish to be named, told iSkyNews that the fire was described to them by Mesa Fire officials as an electrical fire. They said the first signs of trouble came from a burning smell and smoke, prompting management to act quickly: everyone in the restaurant was safely evacuated and customer bills were comped on the spot.
As the fire intensified, it was upgraded to a 1st Alarm, bringing in additional support from Gilbert Fire, EMS units, Rehab trucks, and utility teams from SRP and the City of Mesa.
Firefighters could be seen on the roof cutting ventilation holes to contain the blaze and assess the fire’s spread. Mesa Fire deployed a drone to get a better view of the structure, while a fire investigator was dispatched to determine the origin and exact cause of the fire.
Mesa Police shut down nearby roads surrounding the scene. While southbound Stapley remained open, several adjacent streets were closed to keep the area clear for emergency response crews. Fire units were staged in the Circle K parking lot and nearby adjacent lots as operations unfolded.
Despite the intensity of the scene, no injuries have been reported as of this update.
Authorities remain on scene as the investigation continues. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
