Polk County, FL — A Bartow man is facing multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a dangerous early morning pursuit while allegedly hunting deer illegally from a moving vehicle.
On Thursday, June 19, around 1:00 a.m., the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) attempted to stop a silver 2013 Ford F-150 in the area of District Line Road near Fort Meade. The driver was reportedly using a gun and a light to hunt deer from the roadway—a serious wildlife offense.
When the officer initiated the stop, the driver fled, prompting FWC to request assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
Deputies deployed stop-sticks at multiple locations to try and disable the fleeing truck:
- US 98 & Lake Henry Road – truck evaded
- Lake Hendry Road & Sink Hole Road – truck evaded again
- Sink Hole Road & Murphy Road – truck hit a stop stick, damaging the front right tire, but continued fleeing
The chase came to an end near Mountain Cut-Off Road and US 27, where the vehicle attempted to flee into an orange grove but got stuck in the sand.
Both occupants—26-year-old Bryson Peebles of Bartow and 29-year-old Aleia Douglas of Auburndale—were taken into custody without further incident.
Charges:
- FWC: Both Peebles and Douglas charged with Hunting from the Roadway and Hunting Deer with a Gun & Light
- PCSO: Peebles additionally charged with Reckless Driving and Fleeing to Elude
