NOGALES, AZ – May 28, 2025 – Drug smugglers are constantly attempting new methods to conceal their illicit cargo, but the keen noses of Border Patrol K9 teams proved too sharp this past weekend. U.S. Border Patrol agents, alongside their K9 partners, successfully intercepted and seized over 200 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate incidents at the I-19 immigration checkpoint near Nogales.
According to officials, the weekend seizures involved both liquid and crystal methamphetamine found cleverly concealed deep within two different vehicles. The vigilance of the agents and the specialized detection capabilities of the K9 units were crucial in uncovering the hidden narcotics.

The incidents remain under active investigation. Tucson Sector Border Patrol has stated they will continue to collaborate closely with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to pursue all applicable criminal charges against those involved.
This significant bust highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking along the border and the vital role K9 units play in detecting concealed narcotics.
