Polk County K9 Ace Honored for Valor After Being Shot in Line of Duty

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County Sheriff’s Office K9 who was shot and seriously injured in the line of duty has received a special honor recognizing his bravery and sacrifice.
K9 Ace was presented with a Commendation for Valor by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. The recognition comes after Ace was shot while assisting deputies and ultimately lost one of his legs because of his injuries.
Ace survived the shooting and has since retired from service.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd shared the recognition, describing it as a “well-deserved honor for a very good boy.”
The Sheriff’s Office also wished Ace well as he begins the next chapter of his life away from active duty.
“Keep enjoying retirement, buddy,” the agency wrote.
Ace’s commendation recognizes not only his courage during the dangerous encounter but also his dedicated service to the Polk County community.
