Warranted Pursuit: Tampa Woman Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop in Pink Infiniti
LAKELAND, FL — A high-speed attempt to evade law enforcement ended in multiple charges and the discovery of an active felony warrant for a Tampa woman on Friday afternoon.
The incident began around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8th, when a Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy spotted a pink Infiniti traveling westbound on I-4 near Exit 32 in Lakeland without a visible license tag. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver, identified as 30-year-old Mekeda Adelia Roseann Babb, accelerated and fled.
As the Infiniti sped away, the situation escalated into a display of dangerous driving. Witnesses and deputies reported:
- Littering during flight: A can was seen being thrown from the vehicle's window.
- Aggressive lane changes: Babb reportedly wove through traffic and utilized the shoulder of the interstate to bypass other motorists.
Citing the driver's blatant disregard for public safety, the initial deputy chose not to engage in a high-speed pursuit. Instead, units radioed ahead to coordinate a safe interception.
The "getaway" was short-lived. Just minutes after the initial encounter, additional PCSO deputies successfully stopped the pink Infiniti at Exit 27.
Upon identifying Babb, authorities discovered she was operating the vehicle without a driver's license or motorist insurance. More significantly, she was found to have an active felony warrant out of Hernando County for Throwing a Deadly Missile into an Occupied Vehicle.
Legal Consequences and Criminal History
Babb was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff's Processing Center. In addition to her existing warrant, she faces new charges including:
- Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement (F3)
- Driving While License Suspended or Revoked (M1)
- No Motorist Insurance (M1)
- Littering (M1)
Records indicate that Babb is no stranger to the legal system, with a prior criminal history that includes arrests for burglary, criminal mischief, obstruction, tampering with a witness, DUI, and reckless driving.
