Caught in the Act: Wahneta Woman Arrested After High-Speed Escape from Polk County Deputies
WAHNETA, FL — A young Wahneta woman found herself behind bars Friday afternoon after a dangerous attempt to evade a traffic stop ended in a K9 track and multiple felony charges.
The incident began around 12:25 p.m. on Friday, May 8th, when a Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy attempted to stop a purple Chrysler 300 in the Eagle Lake area. Rather than pulling over, the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Deasia Armonie Johnson, immediately accelerated to flee from the scene.
A Reckless Escape
During the brief pursuit, Johnson displayed a blatant disregard for public safety. Deputies reported that the vehicle:
- Passed multiple cars in a strictly designated no-passing zone.
- Reached speeds of 58 mph in a neighborhood with a posted 25 mph limit.
Recognizing the high volume of traffic and the risk to other motorists, the deputy made the tactical decision to discontinue the pursuit. However, the deputy had already secured a clear identification of Johnson.

K9 Unit Sniffs Out the Suspect
Later that day, the abandoned Chrysler 300 was located at the Wahneta Palms Apartment Complex. Surveillance footage showed Johnson parking the car and walking away from the property.
A PCSO K9 unit was deployed to the scene and successfully tracked the suspect to a nearby fenced-in yard. Johnson was found attempting to hide among stacks of pallets and lawn equipment. Authorities confirmed she did not have permission to be on the property.
Upon her arrest, Johnson reportedly admitted to fleeing because she did not have required motorist insurance.
Facing a Long List of Charges
Johnson is now being held on a variety of charges:
- Unarmed Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling (F2)
- Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement (F3)
- Violation of Probation (Firearm Offense)
- Reckless Driving
- Driving While License Suspended or Revoked
- Failure to Maintain Required Insurance
- Failure to Notify DHSMV of an Address Change
In addition to the criminal charges, Johnson received multiple traffic citations and her vehicle was towed.
