Road Ranger Truck Struck on I-275, Driver Arrested on DUI Charges

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Road Ranger truck was struck from behind on Interstate 275, leaving one worker injured and a driver facing multiple charges, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-275, just north of 4th Street North, where active construction had reduced traffic to a single lane.

📰 What Happened

Investigators say a Honda Accord, driven by a 32-year-old man from Lithia, was traveling northbound in the inside lane when it approached a marked Road Ranger Ford F-600 truck that was already stopped in traffic.

At the time of the crash, the remaining three northbound lanes were closed due to construction, with traffic cones, warning signs, and arrow boards clearly directing drivers into the single open lane. Authorities also noted that multiple law enforcement vehicles were present with emergency lights activated to alert approaching traffic.

Despite those warnings, troopers say the driver failed to slow down or stop, and the front of the Honda slammed into the rear of the Road Ranger truck.

The Road Ranger operator, a 52-year-old man from Plant City, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Cedrick Travon Brown, was taken into custody following the crash.

He faces several charges, including:

  • Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
  • Refusal to Submit to Testing
  • Driving While License Suspended or Revoked
  • Active Felony Warrant

Officials are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in construction zones, especially when lanes are closed and crews or emergency vehicles are present. They also emphasize Florida’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to move over a lane — or slow down if unable to change lanes — when approaching stopped emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and service vehicles like Road Rangers with flashing lights.
